October 17th is just Around the Corner
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced in June that Canadians will be able to consume marijuana recreationally without criminal penalties starting on Oct. 17. And it seems that all things Cannabis related seem to be the hot topic as of late. Even Jimmy Buffet has been reported to be starting a Cannabis related line of products. Things are looking good for all things Cannabis related in Canada. One of the latest items being affected by this new wave has been the vast array of edibles that have become available to consumers.
Various Cannabis Ingestables on the Rise
There have been many THC based edibles since the beginning of time. The different types available have grown to include candies, gummies and even soft drinks. The later has seemed to catch the attention of the one and only Coca-Cola who has reportedly been in talks with Aurora to develop a cannabis-based soft drink.
Coca-Cola and Aurora Team Up
Coca-Cola said on Monday it was closely watching the growing marijuana-infused drinks market, responding to a media report that the world’s largest beverage maker was in talks with Canada’s Aurora Cannabis Inc. Coca-Cola and Aurora would most likely develop beverages that will ease inflammation, pain and cramping, as opposed to energy boosts the BNN report said. Also, this would mark the first major non-alcoholic producer showing interest in fusing with Cannabis products whereas Alcohol companies seemed to show the initial interests.
Corona Leading the Charge in Cannabis Infused Alcoholic Beverages
“We continue to expect to see more deals between Canadian cannabis companies and the larger players in the global alcohol market who have yet to gain exposure to the category,” Cowen analyst Vivien Azer said. As of now the makers of Corona, Constellation Brands is investing $4 billion into marijuana producer Canopy Growth to make cannabis-based products, while Molson Coors Brewing’s Canadian has said it will make cannabis-infused drinks with Hydropothecary Corp.
Right now Quebec-based cannabis company Hexo is partnering with Molson Coors to develop non-alcoholic, cannabis-infused drinks in Canada. The fact is the ball is now rolling and the momentum has begun to ramp up. The different number of products we will be seeing infused with cannabis is on the rise and it shows no reason to slow down.
